Once upon a time, people were putting down an offer on a castle. While (for the most part) these days are in the past, my assumption as a real estate agent is that many reading this post wish, secretly, they could shout “honey I’m home” in one of these incredible structures.
The truth is, I don’t have any castles in my current portfolio to schedule a showing, but why not dream? Below, I showcase 4 real life castles to get you inspired — whether you are in the housing market or just looking to day dream amidst your busy day!
Located on it’s own island in Normandy, France, this 247 acre fortress is a stunning sight to be seen. Mont-Saint Michel is more than a castle but an entire village with the ancient abbey as its focal point, which is situated at the very top for all to see.
Can you believe this was once a retreat center for a German composer (talk about a weekend getaway!) Built in the 19th century, this 213 foot standing German castle sits atop one of the Alpine foothills. Inside the Neuschwanstein Castle you will find incredible ceiling paintings and murals throughout the entire palace, almost everything coated in gold and velvet.
Located in central France, the Chenonceau Castle once stood on its own. In the 16th century a bridge was added on and as you can see, now spans the River Cher. Gothic in design, this incredible castle can hold a population of 400 people and once on the grounds, you will find breathtaking gardens with award-winning floral arrangements.
This 13th century Croatian castle might be smaller in size compared to the above, but is one of the longest standing castles in Europe (talk about a great floor plan)! It is surrounded by a forest of green trees, perched atop a hill for all to see. Believe it or not, this structure was built as an observatory fortress and once home to one family for 3 generations until the 16th century when it was taken over by the state.
