How to Clean your Home with 5 Everyday Pantry Items

When it comes to keeping your home spick and span, having the right cleaning supplies on hand makes all the difference. BUT you don’t have to spend a fortune on fancy name brand products. In fact, you may already have everything you need readily available in your very own pantry.

With these 5 powerful pantry items and a few simple recipes, you should be able to tackle almost any mess your home throws your way.

  • White Vinegar
  • Lemons
  • Baking Soda
  • Salt
  • Dish Soap

Here’s how to use them:

All-Purpose Cleaner

A simple mix of ½ cup white vinegar, 2 cups water, 1 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp dish soap will give you an all-purpose cleaner!

Fabric Softener

For clothes with a softer feel, add ½ cup of white vinegar and ½ cup of baking soda during your laundry rinse cycle.

Stain Remover

If you spill something like wine, oil or tomato sauce on cotton, blot up as much of the liquid as possible, then cover the area with a generous amount of salt. Salt’s extremely absorbent properties will help pull the remaining stain out of the cloth.

Drain Declogger

Periodically pour a mixture of salt and warm water down your kitchen and bathroom drains to clear out build up and also to help deodorize.

Air Freshener & Deodorizer

Both lemons and baking soda can be used as natural deodorizers around your home. Use them separately or mix them together to freshen up areas of your home like the refrigerator, garbage disposal or even sprinkle them on carpets and entry rugs.

Glass Cleaner & Window Washer

Simple mix together some water and white vinegar in a spray bottle and you’ve got yourself the perfect glass cleaner. For added shine, instead of a cloth, wipe clean with newspaper.

Grease Removal

Mix together 2 tbsp lemon juice, ½ tsp dish soap, 1 tbsp baking soda and 2 cups of water to get rid of pesky grease buildup on pots and pans or your stovetop. You can also use a mixture of vinegar and water to get the same results.

There you have it! Not only will using these 5 pantry items help you cut down on your cleaning budget, but they’ll also move your household towards chemical free green-cleaning!
